THE LITTLE FILM THAT COULD
On the day we wrapped production, I lost all the footage.
I can laugh about it now, but in the moment- I sobbed. It was my freshman year of college, I had no idea what it was like to work with a crew. I didn't even know crew positions or titles- what even is an AD? I gathered some of my close friends to help me hold a reflector every now and then. I fully recorded the production sound on iPhones. I edited and colored the film myself. I shot this film on my tiny Sony A6500, the way I was taught to when I first became passionate about film in high school.
On the day we wrapped, I accidentally put the SD card in the pocket of my pants and stayed back to wrap equipment up. When I went to my car, the SD card was no longer in my pocket. I searched everywhere for the card, but it was Fall and the leaves were everywhere. I checked back the next 3 days with my friends- nothing. I was lucky to have an awesome cast who supported me and we reshot the whole film. Lunch on set consisted of homemade sandwiches and chicken salads I made out of the comfort of my dorm.
The experience of making this film is the definition of being a freshman at film school. But, despite the rookie mistakes and $7 lunches, I wouldn't have changed a thing and am beyond proud of the progress I made throughout my time at college.
